TRIGGER POINT THERAPY IN BERN
A trigger point is defined as a small, spherical hardening of the muscle, which is often perceived as a lump and causes pain when touched.
A trigger point occurs when muscle fibers, also known as sarcomeres, do not completely relax again after being tensed, but fine muscle fibers, known as sarcomeres, remain in the tensed state.
This muscular tension can also lead to pain beyond the local trigger point – for example in distant parts of the body such as the abdominal muscles or back.

What are the effects of trigger point therapy?
The main aim is to stimulate the metabolism in the muscle and bring it to relaxation. Trigger point therapy is particularly beneficial in removing metabolic products and supporting blood circulation. This is created by the circular movements at the painful area, which is often the point where the nerve enters the muscle. Even though trigger point therapy can be very painful, it still leads to relief and improved blood circulation in the affected area afterwards, without any side effects.
A final massage of the affected body part further contributes to relaxation.
For which complaints can trigger point therapy help?
Trigger point therapy can have a supportive effect on a wide range of complaints. It is a particularly effective treatment method for headaches, shingles or pain in the neck, shoulder, back or knee area. Trigger point therapy can also be helpful for whiplash, chest pain, tennis elbow or tinnitus, ringing in the ears and sudden deafness.
It also has a positive effect on osteoarthritis, Achilles tendon pain or tendonitis, lumbago, digestive problems or various chronic conditions.
What is the process of trigger point therapy?
Your treatment will begin with a 5-20 minute conversation about your pregnancy, during which all relevant information will be exchanged.
Afterwards, you can undress undisturbed and make yourself comfortable on the massage table.
Your therapist will carry out the treatment according to your needs based on the conversation you had beforehand. If you have any questions or comments, he/she will be available at all times.
Further follow-up appointments can be arranged after the massage if you wish.
What is the difference between trigger point therapy and medical massage?
Medical massage and trigger point therapy are two different therapeutic approaches.
While trigger point therapy specifically treats painful knot points in the muscle in order to release them, medical massage has a broader range of applications. It can be used to relax and loosen the muscles and improve circulation.
Medical massage can also be helpful for chronic pain and tension, while trigger point therapy is used more for acute complaints and pain. In addition, trigger point therapy can often be painful, whereas medical massage is gentler and more pleasant for the patient.
