Foot reflexology massage in Bern

Foot reflexology is a form of alternative medicine and is based on massaging specific reflex zones on the feet, which have a holistic effect on the body and its organ system.

Based on the idea that certain areas of the feet, as well as the hands and ears, have a reflex connection to the internal organs, the corresponding reflex zones are treated. These can make a significant contribution to alleviating various complaints.

The massage is mainly performed on the soles of the feet, toes, heels and the top of the toes.

What are the basics of reflex zone massage?

Foot reflexology works in a similar way to the principle of Chinese acupuncture. However, the two methods differ in terms of their different sources of knowledge. Originating in the North and Central American Indian peoples, Dr. William Fitzgerald delved deeper into foot reflexology after observing that massaging certain areas of the feet led to the alleviation of complaints. The effects of reflex zones have also been used in other cultures for centuries.

In foot reflexology, the left and right feet reflect the left and right halves of the body respectively. The same applies to the hands. However, it has not yet been possible to scientifically explain how these remote effects occur in the body.

When is a massage of the foot reflex zones recommended?

In general, this treatment method has a fundamentally positive influence on our body, as the feet have an effect on organs and muscle groups.

Foot reflexology is an effective method in many respects. In addition to helping with digestive disorders, chronic illnesses or inflammation in the body, it is also useful for stress and exhaustion, muscular tension, pain, a weak immune system or cardiovascular problems.

Reflexology is normally used in conjunction with conventional medical techniques. Several massage sessions are usually required to achieve the desired results. It often takes several appointments to visibly alleviate the symptoms.

When should it not be used?

Foot health is of the utmost importance with this method. Foot reflex massage should not be performed on open wounds or skin diseases.

This treatment method should also be avoided in the case of acute vein injuries, varicose veins, high blood pressure or serious illnesses. Last but not least, foot reflexology should also be avoided if you are pregnant or have a mental disorder.

If in doubt, it is always advisable to seek medical advice.
