MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE IN BERN
With the help of gentle grips and strokes as well as careful massage, lymphatic drainage supports swollen tissue in the case of oedema, trauma or after operations.
The former refers to fluid accumulation and associated swelling. They are caused by the transport of nutrients into cells and blood. Normally, the excess fluid can drain away again, but if this is blocked, for example by the severing of lymph vessels during an operation, this fluid can accumulate and lead to swelling. This is particularly common in the arms and legs.

When should lymphatic drainage be performed?
Manual lymphatic drainage is particularly suitable for use on the arms and legs. However, it can also support the healing process with regular applications, especially in the case of sports injuries.
This treatment method is also recommended for venous insufficiency, as well as for orthopaedic and traumatological conditions associated with swelling. It can also be used for burns, whiplash injuries, migraines and similar complaints. Regular manual lymphatic drainage is particularly useful after an operation to support the healing process.
It can also be beneficial for the flexibility of scar tissue and promote the formation of new lymphatic vessels in the severed tissue, which can reduce swelling.
When should drainage treatment not be done?
Manual lymphatic drainage should be avoided in particular in the case of acute thrombosis, untreated malignancies, pronounced cardiac insufficiency, acute septic inflammation, decompensated heart failure, (malignant) tumors, fever, inflammatory processes of unknown origin, erysipelas and cardiac oedema.
Manual lymphatic drainage is conceivable under certain conditions for other complaints such as chronic inflammation, past thromboses, hypotension, thyroid dysfunction, pregnancy and asthma. However, medical advice should always be sought beforehand.
What is the lymphatic drainage procedure at Origin Massage in Bern?
At the beginning of the therapy session, you and your therapist will have an initial consultation to discuss the main aspects of your state of health. This conversation usually lasts between 5 and 20 minutes and serves to clarify the goals of the treatment.
You can then undress at your leisure and lie down on the treatment table.
The treatment will be adapted and carried out according to the preferences discussed beforehand. Your therapist will be available to answer any questions or comments you may have.
At the end of the session, appointments for further sessions can be made if desired.
