Fifa Museum
Millions of people are passionate about international football and its history. FIFA has dedicated a museum to international football.
In Zurich, the FIFA World Football Museum presents all facets of the football world on 3,000 square metres of exhibition space on three levels.
The ten-storey Haus zur Enge at Zurich Enge station opposite dates from the 1970s. It was renovated and redesigned from 2009 to 2015. This made the lower floors usable as a museum. The opening took place in February 2016.
The journey and the entrance
Take the S-Bahn or tram to Zurich Enge station in the centre of Zurich. It’s easy to buy your ticket online. Adults pay CHF 24 and children CHF 14. There is a 20% discount on travel to and from Zurich Enge by public transport, as well as on admission to the museum. School classes are admitted free of charge by prior arrangement. Except on Mondays, the museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. If you arrive by car, you can park at Enge harbour.
The division and exhibition at the home of football history
The three levels “Playing Fields”, “Planet Football” and Foundations and Gallery show the spectacular view of the history and development of world football.
On the first floor, there is the freely accessible library with over 7,500 football-related publications. Visitors will also find a restaurant with a terrace, a seminar area and a shop selling great souvenirs for football fans young and old.
There are 1,000 pieces of international football memorabilia on display. Each of the men’s and women’s World Cups is represented. One marvels, for example, at famous tobacco pipes from the Italian world champion coach Enzo Bearzot or the tracksuit of Pelé, the jerseys of Diego Maradona and Zinédine Zidane in the original and Rudi Völler’s shoes from 1986. In addition, there are the FIFA World Cup trophies of the men and women. The original jerseys of the FIFA member associations are displayed in the round glass showcase, sorted by colour.
The walk-in pinball is the world’s largest football pinball machine. It is one of the interactive hands-on stations. The “Visions of Football” will feature 500 videos. It is an audio and sound installation for football scenes as well as historical moments. The LED screen is eight metres high. There are also eight minutes of original final match scenes in 180-degree cinema.
To avoid the question of cultural site or waste of money, the FIFA World Football Museum is a great site for the most popular team sport in the world. The museum showcases the compelling history and development of international football. It offers a worthy retrospective of the major tournaments. In addition, the museum shows that football influences and enriches the lives of ordinary people.
