MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE IN BADEN

Using gentle techniques and stroking movements, combined with careful massage, lymphatic drainage helps to reduce tissue swelling caused by oedema, injuries or after surgery.

Edema is an accumulation of fluid in the tissue that leads to swelling. This occurs when nutrients are transported into the cells and the blood. Excess fluid is normally drained without problems. However, if there is a blockage, such as when lymph channels are severed during an operation, the fluid can accumulate and cause swelling. This is particularly common in limbs such as the arms and legs.

How is lymphatic drainage used?

Manual lymphatic drainage is particularly helpful for swelling in the arms or legs and can help to speed up the healing process. When used regularly, it has a positive influence on the recovery process, for example after surgery.

This form of therapy is also ideal for venous insufficiency and orthopaedic and traumatological conditions associated with swelling. It can also help with complaints such as burns, whiplash, migraines and similar symptoms. Continuous manual lymphatic drainage is particularly useful after surgical procedures to promote healing.

The treatment can also help to improve the elasticity of scar tissue and support the formation of new lymphatic channels in affected tissue areas, which in turn effectively reduces swelling.

When should lymphatic drainage be avoided?

Manual lymphatic drainage should be avoided in the case of

  • Acute thrombosis
  • Untreated malignant diseases
  • Severe heart failure
  • Acute septic infections
  • Decompensated cardiac insufficiency
  • Tumor diseases
  • Fever
  • Unclear inflammatory processes
  • Erysipelas (erysipelas)
  • Cardiac oedema

Under certain conditions, use is possible for

  • Chronic inflammation
  • Survived thromboses
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Thyroid dysfunction
  • pregnancy
  • asthma

Important: In these cases, medical advice should always be sought beforehand.
