TRIGGER POINT THERAPY IN WINTERTHUR
A trigger point refers to a small muscle spasm that often feels like a lump or ball and reacts painfully when pressure is applied.
When a muscle is tensed, it normally hardens down to the fiber level and then relaxes completely. When a muscle is tense, however, the smallest muscle fiber areas, the sarcomeres, remain hard and a trigger point develops.
This tension not only has a local effect, but can also cause pain in distant areas of the body. For example, back pain can have its source in pain points in the abdominal muscles. Our experienced therapists at Origin can detect trigger points and release them through targeted massage and pressure treatment to relieve pain and restore mobility.

What are the effects of trigger point therapy?
Trigger point therapy helps with:
– Removal of metabolic products
– Locally strongly improved blood circulation up to 500%.
During pain treatment, the therapist specifically searches for the most painful point in the stressed muscle. This can often be the place where the nerve enters the muscle.
Strong pressure or circular finger movements on the hardened area of the muscle are used to promote blood flow. The goal is to stimulate the muscle’s metabolism and cause it to relax.
The result should be improved blood flow to the muscle and relief of pain in the affected area. A final massage of the affected body part further promotes relaxation.
Although trigger point therapy can often be painful, it usually results in relief without unwanted side effects.

What is the process of trigger point therapy?
1. At the beginning of the treatment, your therapist will take a comprehensive medical history. All information that is important for the treatment of your problem will be collected. The anamnesis can take between 5 and 20 minutes, depending on the complexity of your issue.
2. After the anamnesis the treatment begins. The therapist leaves the room briefly so that you can undisturbed undress the parts of your body that will be treated and settle on the massage table.
3. the therapist focuses on your problem and applies various techniques. During the treatment, you are in communication, for example, about whether the pressure is strong enough, whether the technique is causing pain, or whether the therapist is hitting the trigger points. Your therapist and you should work together as a team.
4. After the treatment, you discuss how many treatments it will take for your problem and make the next appointment.
What is the difference between trigger point therapy and medical massage?
Medical massage and trigger point therapy are two different therapeutic approaches. While trigger point therapy specifically targets painful nodal points in the muscle to loosen them, medical massage has a broader range of applications. It can be used to relax and loosen muscles and promote circulation. Medical massage can also be used for chronic pain and tension, while trigger point therapy is used more for acute discomfort and pain. In addition, trigger point therapy is often painful, while medical massage is gentler and more comfortable for the patient.
