How and why I became a coach

Originally, I studied International Hotel Management. This gave me the opportunity to live and work in different countries all over the globe. As great as it was, I soon sensed that this type of work does not have enough depth for me. Triggered by a period when, for the first time, my childhood trauma caught up with me, I started my journey of self-exploration and self-reflection.

For the first time, I reflected on life’s essential questions: What are my values? What impact do I want to have in this world? What are the things that make me flourish? What are my boundaries and my needs in relationships with others? What do I need to live a fulfilled life? And what do I want my life’s purpose to be? I enrolled in a coaching course in Bonn and started to make my first steps as a coach.

I truly enjoyed the course and I decided that I wanted to go all-in: I wanted to study the science of human flourishing and the human psyche. Thus, in 2019, I started my Master of Science in Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology. I engaged deeply with the research around “what makes us human beings flourish and thrive?” and “how can coaching help with that?”.

In my dissertation, which alone accounted for 500 hours of work, I investigated values work in coaching: “How can coaches help their clients create awareness around their values, and how can these be applied during the coaching process?” I submitted my dissertation in December 2020. Since then I am working as a coach, where I help my clients to establish and strengthen a positive relationship with themselves. Additionally, I facilitate workshops in large corporations across the UK on topics such as growth mindset, resilience, and managing stress.

My passion as a coach

I want to help individuals to realise how wonderful and unique they are. I want to encourage them to stand up for themselves and to live a life that is in alignment with their true being. Because that’s when our wellbeing is high. Thus, I have engaged intensively with the topics:

  • Finding oneself: get to know your authentic self and live it!
  • What are my values, strengths, and needs?
  • How do I create boundaries and say yes to myself?
  • How do I learn to love myself?
  • How do I live a life with purpose?
  • How can I own my power and strength?
  • How can I communicate my needs and what’s on my mind authentically?

I’ve been searching for ways to heal myself, and I’ve found that kindness is the best way.

What is coaching?

The fundamental idea of humanistic coaching is the following: Every individual has all the resources they need to live a fulfilled life. However, in our fast-lived world, we sometimes lose access to these resources. A coach can help you in becoming more aware of your resources and strengths, and to find your own unique way.

Usually, you always have a goal in coaching. This goal can be “I want to progress in my career” but it can also be: “I want to work on my self-love and increase the trust in myself”. As a coach, I can help you find your unique way to achieve your desired goal. I will not give you advice on what to do, because you are the expert for yourself. I will support you, however, in finding and living your own truth.

Coaches use different techniques to help their clients achieve their goals. I work with a client-centred coaching approach. Depending on your needs and goals, I will apply different techniques from cognitive-behavioural coaching, solution-focused coaching, systemic coaching, mindfulness, NLP, shamanism, and many things from positive psychology.

The coaching relationship & your intrinsic motivation

Two of the determining factors for the success of coaching are a positive coach-client relationship and the client’s intrinsic motivation.

When the coach-client relationship is based on trust and they can work together as a team, then the coaching will be the most successful. Thus, when you chose a coach, always make sure that you feel comfortable with that person, that you feel like you can trust them, and that you can open up with them.

I will create a space for you in which you will feel safe, accepted, and encouraged.

Additionally, your personal motivation is determining. Change is only then possible when you truly want it. I can help you during our sessions, the rest of the time you will need to do the work yourself.

How can coaching help?

Coaching can help with many things. Here are some examples:

  • You feel stuck, demotivated, and feel like something is blocking you
  • You are going through a transition, you want to gain clarity, and you want someone to support you through it
  • You want to increase your resilience
  • You are working towards a goal and you need a safe space to reflect and ponder on your next steps
  • You want to learn to become more assertive
  • You want to gain clarity around your boundaries and needs and you want to learn to set and defend these
  • You lack orientation in life, or you are not sure what you currently want to do

WHAT CUSTOMERS SAY ABOUT LAURA-MARIA

Alina, Österreich

Star 0Star 1Star 2Star 3Star 4
